Changing a database-user password also requires updating every application that uses that account.
Before you begin
Log in to the secure Gigatech client area at https://portal.gigatech.nl, open the relevant hosting service, and use the cPanel login action. cPanel labels can differ slightly by theme, version, and hosting configuration.
Steps
- Identify the database user used by the website and locate the application configuration file.
- Create a backup of the website configuration and database.
- Open cPanel and select MySQL Databases.
- In Current Users, locate the required user and choose Change Password.
- Generate or enter a strong password and save it securely.
- Update the same password in the application configuration, such as wp-config.php for WordPress.
- Test the website immediately and restore the previous configuration if database connections fail.
Important notes
- Do not change a database password without knowing every application or script that uses it.
- Never place database credentials in a public ticket or screenshot.
